Skills Training

Intercommunity supports and provides skills training to individuals and youth, who are unemployed, underemployed, have dropped out of school, or require skill enhancement and professional development in order to equip themselves with relevant skills that will enable them to gain employment, self-employment, or enhance their skills. In Sierra Leone, majority of young people or youth between the ages of 15 and 35 face unemployment. Even people who have jobs are often underemployed and do not earn enough income. They often struggle to make end meet. Some of these young people lack relevant education and skills, which can limit opportunities or keep them in low paying jobs or low productivity. These have implications for poverty among young people, the communities and national development. Promoting and supporting skills training will contribute to personal growth, enable people to emerge out of poverty, meaningful contribution to sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction in Sierra Leone. We support skills training and apprenticeship in various skilled trades include tailoring, hair dressing, catering, computer skills training, business skills training, leadership development, auto mechanics, welding, construction, carpentry and much more.

Apprenticeship Training Program

Intercommunity offers Apprenticeship Training program to vulnerable individuals who are unemployed or dropped out of schools and want to pursue careers in skilled trades. The Apprenticeship Training Program helps apprentices to gain hands-on experience and develop their trade skills and job skills readiness so that they will be prepared to find work or be self-employed. Intercommunity partners with enterprises, businesses, industries or companies that provide practical hands-on training to its clients.

Skilled Trade Training in Vocational & Trade schools or Centres

This provides an opportunity for individuals to learn new skills for their future careers. Intercommunity supports vulnerable individuals, especially women and youth to pursue careers in skilled trades in vocational and trades schools, colleges or institutions offering programs related to their skilled trades. This involves learning in a  classroom, on campus from instructors. For some trades, students study in class and complete apprenticeship.
